Challenging children to use their minds successfully in a supportive, collaborative, and respectful community.
Launched in 1980 in a former dairy barn, Bridge School is an independent, state-approved, not-for-profit, elementary school located in beautiful Middlebury, Vermont. Small by design, Bridge School accepts up to 38 K-6 students annually to ensure that students build strong relationships with peers, teachers and the Bridge School community.
Bridge School values respect for the individual within an environment of kindness, collaboration and joint exploration. We create this environment by offering mixed-age classes, daily academic choices for students, and the arts. Students work with every teacher each day.
Bridge School is a staff-led school, but also thrives on the participation of parents and taps into the educational, cultural and artistic resources of Middlebury and beyond.
Students also delight in using our unique facilities, including a gym/theater, a cataloged library, a shop/greenhouse, six classrooms, and a computer lab. Outdoor spaces include a regulation size soccer field, a winter skating rink, a small stream and pond, and climbing, swinging, and sliding structures.
Bridge School also offers Bridge Bananas, an enriching after-school program, which runs on-site until 5:30 each school day.
